Nerja is another popular Spanish resort where one would enjoy its idyllic and quaint fishing villages. It is one of the best modern holiday resorts Spain can offer. There is the much sought after fun in the sun with plenty of soft sand on its lovely beaches. The Mediterranean waters sparkle with warmth to be one of the best in Europe.

Nerja can be found near Malaga with unadulterated beauty and basic comforts. A lot of ancient charm, culture and character can be enjoyed here. This town is sheltered from adverse winters with its strategic Sierra Almijara foothill position while offering an amazing panoramic view.

The quaint village steals the visitors’ heart with its whitewashed townhouses and villas which the locals call ‘home’.

Nerja can be reached from Malaga’s international airport in 45 minutes. Flocks of tourists come to Nerja via the plethora of cheap European flights with good local bus services.

Local attractions

There are enough attractions in Nerja to keep the tourists occupied but the best attraction here is the Balcon de Europa. It is located at the old town with beautiful sea views. It was originally called ‘La Bateria’ after the gun battery which was stocked up in the village’s fortified tower.

The tower was finally destroyed in 1810 by the British who fought the French. The Balcon has been transformed to be a vibrant art and entertainment center for street artists as well as local street entertainers.

It is also a good choice of leisure spot to enjoy the town with horse-drawn carriages and ice-cream vendors up and down the streets. There is a plethora of eateries along the street to satisfy the gastronomy pangs of both the locals and tourists all day long.

It is also a fantastic spot to watch the sun set on the Mediterranean Sea.

The village’s ancient quarter homes sport typical but attractive Andalucia architectural structures; these line the narrow winding roads around the town.

Holiday spot

Nerja offers some great sandy beaches and small coves to be explored. The famous Nerja Caves prove to be a delightful adventurous spot for those who want to explore nature. The stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations were discovered since 1959 which have attracted many tourists.

Winter is a great time at Costa Brava Nerja where winter activities abound. Many come to enjoy skiing at Sierra Mountains. Nightlife is very vibrant with the myriad of bars and pubs that operate until early morning with live music and dancing.
